Prosperous in the past
This building was built by the State Railway of Thailand and used as a repair house for steam locomotives, but it was terminated during the time of General Por Pibulsongkram due to high cost of running steam locomotives especially firewood cost.
With beautiful architecture and high strength concrete and steel structure similar to European trains, it was then transformed from a repair house to be Railway Museum for keeping Royal Rails and other locomotive head which were significant to Thailand. However, it was not opened for public.
Until 1989, the State Railway moved series of Royal Rails and Historical locomotive heads out for the museum building and did not have any plan to use this building for other purposes.
“Thai Rail Fan club” was aware of the value of this building so it asked for the approval from the State Railway of Thailand to utilize this old Museum building as the Club’s office. It also was opened as “Railway Hall of Fame” since 1990 onwards.
The picture inside Railway Hall of Fame: the left hand side is “Makkasun Tram it is the first conveyance which Thai people could see it running with out towing by animals like a cart or people like a rickshaw.
IN the middle of the picture is “Sungnoen” which is a serviceable rail running to serve water and firewood to passenger locomotive-Korat route. The right hand side is golden teak bogie which King Rama V conferred to be used as ambulance bogies. Only the last two of them were remained.
